Self Introduction please!
自己紹介をお願い致します!
Rena:
Hi, I’m Rena Nozawa from AKB48. I’m 20 years old and a university student here in Japan. I have a background of living overseas, so I speak English and Indonesian because I used to live in Indonesia; there I started participating in JKT48, and now I’m here in Japan as a member of AKB48.
こんにちは、AKB48の野澤玲奈です。２０歳で、日本の大学生です。私は海外で暮らしていた経験から英語とインドネシア語が話せます。インドネシアに住んでいたので、JKT48に所属していました、そして今は日本でAKB48のメンバーです。
JPR:
You have a travel vlog series on YouTube that exposes people to cool things in Japan. What's one place that has caught your attention recently that we should try out during our stay here?
玲奈さんは、YouTubeのトラベルVlogで、様々な日本のステキなものを紹介されていますが、一推しのおすすめの場所ってありますか？
Rena:
Well, thank you so much for watching my videos, I’m really happy you did! I always say the AKB48 theater because it’s a place you can go to experience Japanese pop-culture.
私のビデオを観て下さってありがとうございます、すごくうれしいです。おすすめは、やっぱりAKB48劇場ですね。日本のポップカルチャーを体験できる場所ですから。
JPR:
What are your personal tips for dealing with this heat in Japan?
日本の猛暑をどんな風に乗り切っていますか？
Rena:
Well actually, I used to live in Jakarta, which is way hotter than here, so I’m kind of okay with it. I drink lots and lots of water; I think I drink 2 liters of water a day. Like, I buy like four of those 500 ML teas a day, so I guess that’s how I survive the heat.
私は、日本よりずっと暑いジャカルタに住んでいたので、大丈夫なんですが、とにかく水をいっぱい飲みます、一日2リットルくらいかな。500MLのボトルを4本買ったりして乗り切っています。。
JPR:
What is your charm-point that sets you apart as an idol?
玲奈さんのアイドル離れしたチャームポイントってなんでしょうか？
Rena:
Well, for me I think it’s my background and the fact that I can speak 3 languages, so I have the ability to connect to the world and promote AKB48 to it.
やはり、海外暮らしの経験で3か国語が話せるということですね。そのおかげで、世界中の人々にAKB48を紹介することができるんです。
JPR:
How have you been doing with Team K, and what can your fans expect in the near future?
Team Kで活躍されていますが、これから、ファンはどんなことを期待できるでしょうか？
Rena:
I started off here in AKB48 with Team K, but as it turns out, I’m not a strong dancer, so I had a hard time. I think I was 15 or something when I started, and I had a hard time. Then I went to different teams and did my best with whomever I was with and did lots of idol things. I’m 20 now, so years have passed and I’m back here, so I hope I can do lots and lots of dancing, since it’s a stronger dancing team. And I think the members are really really unique. I think Team K is kind of like, the most interesting team, everyone has their own really strong characters, so it’s gonna jumble things up. I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but it’s probably gonna be fantastic.
私は、AKB48のTeam Kから始まったんですが、ダンスが得意ではなかったので、大変でした。15歳の時だったと思います。それから、チームB、チーム４に所属して、メンバーと一緒にベストを尽くしてアイドル活動をしました。今、20歳で、約5年ぶりにチームKに戻るので、パワフルなダンスチームで思い切り踊りたいと思っています。そして、メンバーみんな、とってもユニークだと思うんです。Team Kはメンバー１人１人が個性豊かで、力強くて、混ざり合ってすごいものができそう。何がってわからないけど、きっと、とっても素敵なもの！
JPR:
Being trilingual, what has made your idol career unique as an influence in AKB, JKT, and as an English first language speaker?
トライリンガル（3か国語が話せる）や、英語が第一言語であることで、AKB４８やJKT４８に影響力のあるメンバーとして、玲奈さんのアイドルキャリアをユニークしたのは何ですか？
Rena:
Well of course connecting to a large wide span of fans, but also depending on the different cultures, there are different things that people find appealing, and I incorporate all that information. So for example, fans in Japan have this kind of tendency, and people overseas have that tendency, and so on. I also use the fact that Japanese fans like looking at international cultures and stuff, so I use a lot of English, but for international fans, they have a tendency to like really really Japanese stuff. So I use both.
広範囲のファンの方々とつながることができることのみならず、私は人々や文化の種類によって、惹かれるものが違うのを知っているので、それぞれに違う対応ができます。例えば、日本のファンにはこういう傾向があって、海外のファンにはああいう傾向があって、等々。日本のファンは海外で流行っていること等に興味があるので、英語をよく使います。一方、海外のファンは日本のものがとっても好きなんです。だから両方使います。
JPR:
Ah, I see. So it flip flops in that sort of way between Japanese and international fans.
なるほど。日本と海外のファンの傾向によって両方うまく対応してるんですね。
Rena:
Yes, it’s really interesting!
そう、とても面白いですよ！
JPR:
What is the next language you would like to master and why?
次に極めるとしたら何語？そしてなぜ？
Rena:
I’d say Mandarin, because if I have the ability to speak it, I’d have a larger audience. But I also have a different perspective of trying a rarer language that’s used by less people. That would make me really unique here in Japan, so I have those two choices of finding a really really rare language and also learning a popular one.
多くの方々と話すことができるので、中国語ですね。私は少人数が話す言語を通して見る、他の人とは違う見解を持っています。中国語を学習してメジャーな言語とレアな言語の両方話せるようになり、とってもユニークな能力を持ちたいです。
JPR:
What foods do you miss from each country you've lived in?
今まで住んだ国々の食べ物で、恋しいなって思うものを教えて下さい。
Rena:
Thailand:
Mango juice, it’s like, the best. It’s kind of like here in Japan, although when you have mango juice, it’s kind of like mango, sugar basically mango-ish, but like in Thailand, it’s 100% mango. Brilliant. Fantastic.
タイ：マンゴージュース、もう最高。日本でもあるんですけど、マンゴーに砂糖が入っている感じで、タイのは、本当に100％マンゴーなんです。素晴らしくて、すごいです。
Australia:
I’d say vegemite.
オーストラリア：ベジマイトです。
JPR:
Oh my gosh, really? You like vegemite?
えー、本当ですか？ ベジマイト好きなんですか？
Rena:
There are of course people who don’t like vegemite, and people who love vegemite. For me, I don’t like vegemite, but like, I feel nostalgic when I see vegemite. Other than that, fish and chips I guess?
もちろん、ベジマイトが嫌いな人もいれば、好きな人もいます。私は、好きじゃないんだけど、なんか、見ると懐かしいなぁって思うんです。それ以外は、フィッシュアンドチップスかな
Indonesia:
Bakso. It’s kind of like a meatball soup thing. It’s so good. You can get it for like a dollar in Indonesia, it’s really really cheap. It’s just like, the best.
インドネシア：バクソです。ミートボールスープみたいなもので、美味しいんです。インドネシアで1ドルくらいで買えるんです、すごく安い。最高ですよ。
United States:
I really miss Whole Foods. I really love how you weigh food and everything. AND Cheetos. You can get them in Japan, but they’re different than the ones in America.
アメリカ：ホールフーズが恋しいですね。食べ物を量り売りしてくれるのがすごくいい。それと、チートス！ 日本にもあるけど、アメリカのとはやっぱり違うんです。
JPR:
Ah, like the flamin’ hot kind?
激辛のですか？
Rena:
Yeah! Those different kinds.
そうそう、そういう変わった種類の！
JPR:
Team 8 really brought the house down at this year's Anime Expo Convention in Los Angeles. What can overseas fans expect from AKB48 in terms of making more international appearances?
チーム８の活躍はロサンゼルスのアニメエキスポで大盛況でしたよね。海外のAKB48ファンはこれからどんなことが期待できますか？
Rena:
I think the concept of AKB48 is really unique. American style pop groups are kind of different because you admire them and then you listen to their songs feeling like you want to be like them. For us, we’re at the same level as everyone else. We’re really close to our fans. We hope they support us so that we can continue to improve. We start off as people who can’t even do anything. We’re just like normal school girls not being able to do much. And then our fans support us and through that, we’re able to do more things. We show how we fail at things, we get better at things, we make mistakes. By showing all this, we want everyone to feel like you can be anything you want to be. You have the possibility to fulfill your own dreams. You can do anything. So I hope that overseas fans can understand that unique concept of supporting an idol, a celebrity…well we’re not celebrities…we’re idols. We’re close. So I hope that the overseas fans can understand that.
AKB48の概念はとてもユニークだと思うんです。アメリカのポップグループは、ファンがあこがれて、曲を聴いて、彼らのようになりたい、っていうスタイルで少し違うと思います。私達は、みんなと同じレベルにいるんです。ファンと近い存在。ファンがサポートしてくれたら私達は頑張れる。私達はなんにもできないところから始めるんです、普通の女子学生と同じ。それが、ファンの皆さんがサポートしてくれて、そのおかげで、いろんなことができるようになるんです。私達は、失敗したり、何かを頑張ったり、間違ったりする様子を見せています。すべて見せることによって、やりたい事はなんだってできるんだってみんなに感じて欲しいんです。誰でも、夢を叶える可能性を持っている。なんだってできる。というふうに、海外のファンにも、こんな風にアイドルをサポートするという新しいユニークな概念をわかって頂きたい。私達は、有名人ではなくてアイドル、身近な存在、ということを海外のファンのみなさんに理解してもらいたいです。
JPR:
After you quit being an idol, you should seriously consider working at the embassy, because you’re very inspiring!
いつか、アイドルを引退したら、大使館で働くべきですよ、玲奈さん、すごく人の心を動かします！
Rena:
No no no! I’m just so happy that you guys came from America to see us.
いえ、いえ！ とにかく、はるばるアメリカから私達に会いに来てくれて本当にうれしいです。
JPR:
Same here!

JPR:
If you were to perform anywhere in the United States, where would you want to go and why?
アメリカでパフォーマンスするとしたらどこがいいですか？そしてどうして？
Rena:
LA. I really wanted to go to Anime Expo, but that was Team 8 who went there. But still, LA. LA is where Hollywood is, where everything happens. As AKB48, we’re very different. When it comes to normal people that don’t necessarily don’t know so much about Japanese culture, I’m not sure if they would understand. Because the level of performance is...not the same as American artists, we’re not that group. I’m hoping that people would understand that, and that we’re really close to our fans. We want to abolish that wall of being on television, and normalize being next to you in everyday life. So, I hope that they can feel that in LA.
ロサンゼルスです。アニメエキスポにもすごく行きたかったです。されどロサンゼルス。ハリウッドがあり、あらゆることが起こっている場所です。AKB48は独特なグループなので、日本のポップカルチャーをあまり知らない一般の人達にどこまでわかってもらえるでしょうか。パフォーマンスのレベルとか、アメリカのアーティストグループとは違うんですよね。その違いをわかってくれたらうれしいです。そして、私達は、ファンにとっても身近な存在だっていうことを。テレビの中の存在という壁を取り除きたい。そして、みんなの毎日の生活の中で隣にいるような存在になりたい。そんな私達をロスの人達が感じてくれたらうれしいです。
JPR:
What is the most important trait to have to be an AKB member?
AKB48のメンバーになるのに一番重要な特性は何ですか？
Rena:
Actually, you don’t really need anything because the fans really help you. And that’s the strongest point, but I think an important trait to have is to keep believing in who’s supporting you. Like, keeping the connection; remembering that if they’re not there, you won’t be here. Is it a trait? It’s a way of thinking I guess. I think that’s probably the only thing you need, because you can be anything here. You can do anything.
実はなにもいらないんですよ、ファンの皆さんが助けてくれるから。一番大切なのは、サポートしてくれるファンを信じること。ファンがいなければ私達は存在しないことを忘れない。それが特性になるのかな。
JPR:
Do you have a parting message for your overseas fans?
最後に、海外のファンへメッセージをお願いします。
Rena:
Hi, we’re AKB48! Maybe you may not know us right now, but I hope you guys get a chance to look us up. We’re a completely new kind of way of performing songs, and I think we’re kind of a really new genre in music. So I hope that you guys can check us out and come see us here in Japan.
こんにちは、AKB48です！ まだ私達のことを知らないかもしれませんが、一度どんなグループかみて下さい。私達は、新しいジャンルのアイドルとして、いろいろな音楽やパフォーマンスを繰り広げています。いつか、日本に会いに来てくれるとうれしいです！
